– University of Malaya-Wales (UM-Wales)

Nurturing Future Leaders for the Next Industrial Era

University of Malaya-Wales (UM-Wales) was founded in 2013 through a partnership between two esteemed institutions: the Universiti Malaya (UM) and the University of Wales, UK. Since its inception, UM-Wales has seen remarkable growth and remains dedicated to nurturing students prepared to contribute to the advancements of the next industrial era.

UM-Wales stands out as one of Malaysia’s pioneering universities to offer Dual Award programmes. These programs are developed in collaboration with our esteemed partner institution, the University of Wales Trinity Saint David (UWTSD), UK. Upon graduation, students receive certifications from both UM-Wales and UWTSD. Through a semester spent at the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, students gain invaluable exposure to international education while earning dual degrees from the UK and UM-Wales.

– SUCCESS STORY

A delegation from the University of Technology Sarawak (UTS), led by Vice-Chancellor Prof. Datuk Dr Khairuddin Ab Hamid, recently visited the University of Malaya-Wales (UM-Wales). This visit was aimed at exploring potential partnerships between the two institutions. UTS, a state-owned university with a focus on technology-driven education, aims to propel development in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) in Sarawak.

During the meeting, discussions revolved around various avenues for collaboration between the two universities. These included possibilities such as student exchange programs, joint research initiatives, offering short courses and training, facilitating internships for UTS students in Kuala Lumpur and organizing events and conferences for students. Additionally, both institutions explored the potential of co-teaching subjects and sharing experiences to identify further opportunities for collaboration.

Kirstie Wong Chee Ching, a former student of the UM-Wales, embodies a remarkable success story. Graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Biotechnology in November 2021, Kirstie wasted no time in launching her career. She embarked on her professional journey as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Research in Molecular Medicine (INFORMM), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

In addition to her role at INFORMM, Kirstie has been recognized for her expertise in the field. She was appointed as an Editorial Member of the Biomedical and Biotechnology Research Journal (BBRJ), showcasing her dedication and proficiency in her chosen field.

Kirstie attributes much of her success to the solid foundation of skills and knowledge she acquired during her time in the Biotechnology program at UM-Wales. Her journey stands as a testament to the quality education and opportunities provided by the university.
