The Group’s Plantation Business commenced its journey with the development of an Oil Palm Plantation estate in Kota Tinggi, Johor.
UM Plantations Sdn Bhd, established during the LPU Meeting on 10 June 1999, marked the genesis of this enterprise. Nestled within the Universiti Malaya forest reserve in Lot 396 Sg. Ulu Sedeli Besar, Kota Tinggi Johor, the estate spans 402.6 hectares exclusively dedicated to oil palm cultivation. Initially, the UM oil palm plantation project witnessed the planting of 54,100 oil palm seedlings across 397.8 acres.
The inauguration ceremony of the UM Oil Palm Plantation in Kota Tinggi, Johor, took place on 7 March 2000, under the distinguished patronage of YBhg. Tan Sri Dato’ Dr. Hj Abdullah Sanusi Ahmad. Operational oversight of the estate was entrusted to Boustead Estates Agency Sdn Bhd through a Management Agency Agreement inked between UM Plantations and Boustead Estates Agency Sdn Bhd on 01 September 1999.
Following the successful conclusion of this agreement in 2020, UM Plantations assumed full responsibility for managing and operating the estate independently, starting from 2021.
The Management will continue to focus on maximising production & productivity, minimising cost and optimising profit through a prudent management approach. Since we are price-takers, the most rational thing to do is to focus on improving yield and prudent spending. Field operations involving harvesting, manuring, pruning and upkeep will be strictly monitored for timely execution.
